TESTIMONIALS

There's no better studio in this city, and I've greatly enjoyed the experiences you've made possible - making music with friends, family and a truly excellent teacher - P. James McCord

I don't think that we could have asked for a better instructor for Ashley, now almost nine and Kelsey who is 7 and a half. They have both taken piano since they were in Kindergarten and have had a great time. Janice is firm, yet gentle and teach them the discipline that will help guide them not only in piano, but in anything that they do. They are playing well beyond what we could ever imagine. She is always encouraging them to do just a little more, to always push themselves, and they have been rewarded with their achievements. Thank you Janice! -Kent and Becky Ellenz

Our 6 year old daughter, Genevieve has been taking private piano lessons from Janice for less than a year and in that short time she has flourished under her instruction and guidance. Janice challenges her to explore a range of music and through the supportive environment and incredible supplemental tools that Janice provides, my daughter has learned to absolutely love playing the piano. Genevieve’s confidence has risen tremendously and we are so grateful to have found Janice. -Kevin & Billie Gaura

“Not a good one, but a great one!” is my answer to the question “Do you know a good piano teacher?” And Janice Smith truly is great at what she does. She’s taught my children, two very different personalities, and with both has been able to judge their individual ways of learning and adjust her methods to how they learn the best. She’s also taught me, as an adult, and I’ve benefited from her expertise as well. In thirty years of piano, I’ve never had a better instructor. She teaches with incredible patience but it’s well tempered with high expectations that she insists the children try to fulfill. Amazingly, she makes this enjoyable to do. Sprinkled throughout the year are group lessons where her students can meet others and share some learning and social time, mini-recitals where they can show off their talent without the stage fright of a larger event, and games and contests to encourage them to go that one step farther. These all lead to the two big performances of the year where the children, by the time they get to those events, are well prepared to shine. Janice, herself, continues to grow in both her skill as a pianist and also as a teacher. We often see her practicing before our lessons, and the children know that she, too, has a piano teacher and must practice just as they do. In addition, throughout the year she participates and attends various music teaching seminars and conferences which keep her book of tricks up to date. That to me says dedication. We are fortunate to have been able to secure a place with this truly excellent teacher, and I can’t imagine a student that wouldn’t benefit being part of Mrs. Smith’s studio. -Bortz Family
